The Graduate Student Association (GSA) is a representative student government and advocacy group working for over 8,000 graduate and professional students at the University of Georgia. We advance student rights and interests, hold exciting socials, organize community service events, and keep students informed about issues relevant to graduate student life at UGA.

Events

The GSA generally has five types of events: Meetings, Socials, Philanthropy, Professional Development and the Georgia Graduate Student Interdisciplinary Conference.

Meeting are held once per month during the Fall and Spring Terms--generally on the fourth Monday of each month. The individual meetings are relatively short lasting from half an hour to a full hour from 6:30-8:00pm. Anyone is welcome to attend.

Socials are held less frequently than meetings although they are almost equally as important. Socials are generally held a few times per semester. These gatherings give us the opportunity to get to know one another more personally outside of the school environment. Again, everyone is welcome to attend the socials as well.

These Georgia Graduate Student Interdisciplinary Conference (GGSIC) is a academic conference hosted by GSA each Spring Term. The GGSIC gives students the opportunity to present their research in front a crowd of their peers to prepare for presentations at more prestigious academic conferences of the students' individual disciplines. The GGSIC is a great opportunity to see what kinds of research are being offered by current graduate students of the University of Georgia. For more information on the conference please visit the GGSIC page.

Upcoming Events

GSA Welcome Reception for New Students

August 11, 2010
Event type: Socials

GSA will be hosting a welcome reception for incoming graduate students on August 11, 2010 from 12:00-2:00 P.M.  The Graduate School will be holding Orientation on the same day, and the GSA reception will immediately follow those events.

The GSA Reception will take place at the Miller Learning Center Fourth Floor Rotunda from 12:00-2:00 P.M. on August 11th.  GSA will be providing food and refreshments for new and returning students interested in meeting each other and learning more about GSA.

GSA has partnered with Athens Transit to provide transportation from the Classic Center to the reception, with a brief tour of campus for those who may not be familiar with all of UGA.  Buses will drop students off at the MLC, and GSA volunteers will be available to direct you to the event.  Please note that the buses will not be returning students to the Classic Center, so plan accordingly.

If you are an incoming student, this will be a great opportunity to learn how you can get involved with GSA, what types of issues we work on, and to just take a relaxing break from the heat.

If you have questions about the event, or you are interested in volunteering with GSA, please contact Jason O'Rouke at gsa@uga.edu
